Clinical Problems We Will Address
Male Sexual Dysfunctions
When focusing on male sexual dysfunctions, we will not only address assessment and treatment strategies but also tackle various related challenges. For example, we will explore how to work with clients who don’t have partners; clients displaying personality traits such as narcissism; clients struggling with obsessive thoughts about their issues; those whose experiences of shame persist; clients with concurrent anxiety issues, and more.
Female Sexual Dysfunctions
Similarly, supervision on female sexual dysfunctions, will address assessment and treatment while considering various problems commonly encountered in clinical practice that require advanced skills from the clinician. They may include steps to take when the partner is reluctant to engage in therapy; the client shows unrealistic expectations about the therapeutic process or doesn’t follow your suggestions; the client experiencies concurrent depression symptoms or exhibits borderline personality traits. These issues are just a few examples of the complexities we will tackle.
Couple problems
In our supervision sessions focused on couples, we will address a range of common problems that can hinder progress in sex therapy. Indicative issues we will explore include how to handle secrets that create barriers between couples and what strategies to implement when a partner is undermining therapeutic progress; effective approaches for partners having differing sexual preferences; attachment insecurities that impact sexual behavior and other topics.
Other specialized topics
These topics include compulsive sexual behavior, traumatic experiences affecting intimacy, sex, gender, and relationship diversity, as well as problematic porn use. Among others, we will address critical questions such as how masturbation practices influence partnered sexual experiences; how to uncover past trauma behind a client’s sexual dysfunction, how to manage a mismatch between the client and the therapist’s perception of the problem, but also issues such as strategies for working with clients who hold different values from those of the clinician.
